TURKISH LANGUAGE

Hello Everyone,

As we approach the end of Term One, it makes me realize how quickly it has passed. During this time, the students have made a lot of progress and they’re getting better every day. Learning is a long process which never ends. Everything cannot be learnt immediately as it requires more time to study, understand and then practise. To learn a language, it needs patience and students should enjoy this task.

We have had a great time in LOTE classes by playing games and learning some songs which are related to our topics. It is accepted that learning languages with songs significantly improves the students’ pronunciation of words. Every teacher has different methods of teaching. Studying language is very different from other subjects such as Maths, Science, Humanities and Geography since it is more comprehensive and it actually includes every aspect of life.

It is important to learn a native language at a younger age. It has already been established that children who learn a language when they are very young have a better chance of not having a “foreign” accent when speaking. Young children enjoy learning. They don’t care if an activity will improve their cognitive abilities or motor skills. They just want to jump in and have a great time doing it. The wonderful thing about young children is that they will give things a try without necessarily worrying if their language is correct or not.

In addition, parents’ support for kids to learn their native language is crucial. Parents should talk to their children mostly in their native language. Language learning is not something that can be only learnt at school. Indeed, teachers work hard to get the students engaged and involved in language activities. However, using language at home connects your children to your family. It also provides a connection to your important cultural traditions, and to friends and neighbours who speak the same language.

Enjoy talking with your kids :)
